Mentoring For Cosmetic Tattooing

Mentoring in cosmetic tattooing in Logan, Brisbane QLD

Mentoring & Shadowing

I’ve had quite a few enquiries recently about mentoring and shadowing, and while I genuinely appreciate the interest, I want to be transparent about what’s involved.

Mentoring isn’t just a quick session, it requires me to step away from my own clients, which impacts my business, so it needs to be taken seriously from both sides.

If you’re considering mentoring, here are a few important things to understand:

  • You would need to commit to at least 1/2 a day per week for approximately 3 months
  • You must be able to provide your own models consistently.
  • This is a hands-on learning process, not theory.

Before stepping into Cosmetic Tattooing, ask yourself:

Are you already working within the beauty industry?
Those with existing experience are far more likely to succeed.

Can you confidently generate your own clients and models?
If not, this industry will be very challenging.

Are you experienced with social media, posting, advertising and stories?

Consistent advertising is not optional, it’s essential if you want to succeed in this industry. This includes platforms like Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.

Do you know how to produce engaging content, reels and posts? If you’re not confident in this area, you will need to invest time into learning and improving your skills. This may also require additional training, which means extra time, effort and financial investment.

Have you considered your location?
Setting up next to multiple businesses offering the same services can make it much harder to build a client base. Choosing the right area is key.

Are you aware of what’s involved in setting up a clinic with your local council?

Infection control requirements are strict and must be met to operate legally. Setting up a compliant clinic can be complex and often involves significant costs.

Alternatively, are you prepared to pay upwards of $350 per week in rent while you build your client base? This is an ongoing expense that needs to be factored in from the beginning.

You cannot simply operate from a bedroom at home. Cosmetic Tattooing requires a dedicated, compliant treatment space (which includes 2 plumbed in basins & smooth washable surfaces) that meet council and infection control regulations.

Are you prepared to work without pay for a significant period while building your business?

This is not an overnight success industry. You need to be realistic, don’t expect to be earning $100k+ a year straight away.

There are substantial ongoing costs involved, including insurance, stock, equipment, rent and continued training, all of which add up quickly and are often cost much more than anticipated. You need to pay your expenses before paying yourself.

Finally, this industry takes years to truly master. Don’t expect to produce consistently excellent results until you’ve had significant “time on skin”. It’s far more difficult than most people realise.

Cosmetic tattooing is a rewarding career, but it requires ongoing commitment, investment, and a strong business mindset, not just technical skill. It’s not the cash cow some trainers make it out to be.

Please Note: Its a $70k fine if you are caught operating a skin penetration service without a Council License!

If you’re serious about moving forward and feel you meet the above, I’m happy to discuss mentoring further. I’m not offering shadowing at this stage.

Cost: $6000 – Paid up front. No refunds.
